Ja, so, da können wir uns jetzt auch drauf einstellen, dass wir regelmäßig miteinander sprechen, da du ja jetzt, wie die Leute wissen, nicht mehr in Rostock wohnst, müssen wir ja auch irgendwie den Kontakt halten und wie ließe sich das besser organisieren als über diesen Podcast? Also eigentlich eine sehr gute Gelegenheit, oder? Yes, so we can now get used to the fact that we’ll be talking to each other regularly, since you no longer live in Rostock, as people know, we somehow have to stay in touch, and how could that be better organized than through this podcast? Weil irgendwie quatscht man ja dann doch nicht so oder telefoniert ja doch nicht so regelmäßig und ja, so passt das doch eigentlich auch ganz gut. Because somehow you don’t chat that often or call that regularly, and yes, this actually fits quite well.
Genau, denke ich auch. Und wir haben heute ein richtig schönes, wichtiges Thema für euch mitgebracht, Leute, und zwar reden wir darüber, wie man eigentlich mit dem Thema Trinkgeld in Deutschland umgehen sollte. Exactly, I think so too. And we brought a really nice, important topic for you today, folks, and that is, we’re talking about how one should actually deal with the topic of tipping in Germany.
Ihr wisst, Trinkgeld, ein ganz wichtiges Thema. Ihr seid vielleicht auch schon damit in Berührung gekommen, habt vielleicht schon unangenehme Erfahrungen gemacht. Und da hat ja auch jeder so ein bisschen so eine eigene Philosophie, eine eigene Herangehensweise. Ja, also das wird ein ganz spannendes Thema und vorher noch der kleine Hinweis an euch, wenn ihr hier wirklich alles verstehen wollt, was wir sagen, ihr wisst, wir sprechen in normalem Tempo mit sehr viel Umgangssprache, das heißt, dann holt euch einfach das zweisprachige Transkript. You know, tipping is a very important topic. You may have already come into contact with it, perhaps you’ve already had unpleasant experiences. And everyone has their own little philosophy, their own approach. Yes, so that will be a very exciting topic, and beforehand, the little note to you: if you really want to understand everything we’re saying here, you know, we speak at a normal pace with a lot of colloquial language, that means, just get the bilingual transcript.

Mein Wort der Woche ist Kachelofen diesmal. My word of the week is ‚Kachelofen‘ (tiled stove) this time.
Weil hier in der Wohnung von meinem Freund gibt’s einen Kachelofen, mit dem eigentlich quasi die ganze Wohnung geheizt wird und ja, es kommen kommt ganz schön Winterstimmung auf, muss ich sagen, weil es ist einfach verdammt kalt. Because here in my boyfriend’s apartment there’s a tiled stove, which practically heats the whole apartment, and yes, a nice winter mood comes up, I have to say, because it’s just damn cold.
Also jetzt schon und dementsprechend läuft hier eigentlich den ganzen Tag der Kachelofen, den ich gerade vorhin auch wieder eingeheizt habe und ja, ist gemütlich, aber schon winterlich. So, already now, and accordingly, the tiled stove is actually running all day here, which I just fired up again earlier, and yes, it’s cozy, but already wintery.
Geil, Kachelofen, ist so ein richtig schönes altes, altes Ding wahrscheinlich, ne? Ja, ich habe so ein richtiges Bild vor Augen. Cool, tiled stove, it’s a really nice old, old thing probably, right? Yes, I have a real picture in my mind.
Ja, ja, voll mit so alten alten grünen Fliesen und so noch. Yes, yes, completely with such old green tiles and so on still.
Sehr cool. Okay. Gut, mein Wort der Woche ist Nackenkissen und zwar, weil ich mir eins gekauft habe, ganz ganz simpel und ja, einfach tatsächlich, also ohne Witz, ich habe aufgehört zu schneichen. Very cool. Okay. Good, my word of the week is ‚Nackenkissen‘ (neck pillow), and that’s because I bought one, very, very simple, and yes, actually, seriously, I stopped snoring.
Echt jetzt? Seit seit drei Wochen hat meine Freundin ruhige Nächte, weil ich nicht mehr schneiche. Das ist Wahnsinn.Really? For three weeks now my girlfriend has had quiet nights because I don’t snore anymore. That’s insane.
Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass es am Nackenkissen liegt, aber es ist der Fall und es ist trotzdem gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber es funktioniert offenbar und zumindest meine Schlafqualität hat sich verbessert. I never thought it was due to the neck pillow, but it is the case, and it’s still something you have to get used to, but it apparently works, and at least my sleep quality has improved.
Ja. Geil. Das ist ja richtig cool. Ja. Yes. Cool. That’s really cool. Yes.
Auf jeden Fall. Also ich staune, ich staune auch. Ja, das sind zumindest die ersten drei Wochen, mal gucken, was noch kommt, aber soweit so gut, so funktioniert es erstmal. Definitely. So I’m amazed, I’m amazed too. Yes, those are at least the first three weeks, let’s see what else comes, but so far so good, that’s how it works for now.
Das wäre mal eine schöne schöne einfache Lösung statt irgendwie eine OP oder sowas. That would be a nice, simple solution instead of an operation or something.
Definitiv. Also, ja, die die Luftprobleme habe ich immer noch in der Nase, aber zumindest die die Schnarchprobleme, die haben aufgehört. Zumindest vorerst. Definitely. So, yes, I still have the breathing problems in my nose, but at least the snoring problems, they’ve stopped. At least for now.

Immerhin. Okay, wir starten mal mit dem Thema Trinkgeld. At least. Okay, let’s start with the topic of tipping.
Jo. Yep.
Wo wo muss man Trinkgeld geben eigentlich? Also ich ja, es ist ja auch in jedem in jedem Land unterschiedlich, aber in Deutschland und ich habe das Gefühl, wir haben schon eine entschiedene Trinkgeldkultur, oder? Wir sind wir sind Trinkgeldgeber und auch Trinkgeldnehmer, oder? Where, where do you actually have to tip? So, yes, it’s different in every country, but in Germany, and I have the feeling that we already have a firm tipping culture, right? We are tippers and also tip receivers, right?
Voll, also, ich glaube, echt in Deutschland ist Trinkgeld einfach so ein riesen Thema und viel größer als in anderen Ländern, so weit, wie ich das jetzt beurteilen kann, aber es ist ja eigentlich immer Gang und Gebe Trinkgeld zu geben und wenn du kein Trinkgeld gibst, dann hast du irgendwie das Gefühl, dass derjenige, der dich irgendwie in irgendeiner Form bedient hat, sage ich mal, auch wenn es nur an der Theke war, irgendwie beleidigt ist, wenn du das nicht machst.Absolutely, so, I really believe that tipping is simply such a huge topic in Germany and much bigger than in other countries, as far as I can judge, but it is actually always common practice to tip, and if you don’t tip, then you somehow have the feeling that the person who served you in some way, let’s say, even if it was just at the counter, is somehow offended if you don’t do that.
