Willkommen zu einer neuen Folge von Deutsches Geplapper. Heute wird es wild, wir reden über Deutschlands Wildnis.Welcome to a new episode of Deutsches Geplapper. Today it’s going to be wild, we’re talking about Germany’s wilderness.
Die ist bedroht, kann man so sagen, aber wir wollen das Ganze nicht zu negativ spinnen, sondern es gibt auch Lösungen, wie wir das Ganze anpacken können, wie wir Deutschlands Wildnis schützen können. It is threatened, you could say, but we don’t want to spin the whole thing too negatively; instead, there are solutions for how we can tackle the whole thing, how we can protect Germany’s wilderness.
Wir werden heute darüber reden, wir werden ein paar Fakten nennen, wer die Wildnis schützt und wie man generell die Wildnis schützen kann. We will talk about it today, we will state a few facts about who protects the wilderness and how one can generally protect the wilderness.
Vielleicht als Einstiegsfrage: Wie oft hast du in der Vergangenheit als Kind, als Jugendliche, wie oft hast du schon Wildtiere gesehen? Perhaps as an opening question: How often in the past as a child, as a teenager, how often have you seen wild animals?
Ja, das kommt darauf an. Ich glaube, wenn wir jetzt Rehe mit dazuzählen, dann… Yes, that depends. I think if we include deer now, then…
Klar, Rehe sind ja Wildtiere. Sure, deer are wild animals.
Ja, also die schon ziemlich oft. Das auf jeden Fall. Dann halt so ein paar Sachen wie Hasen, Füchse, ja, doch, das relativ häufig, würde ich sagen. Yes, so those quite often. Definitely. Then just a few things like hares, foxes, yes, indeed, that relatively often, I would say.
In der Kindheit auf jeden Fall. Rehe auch immer noch relativ häufig, aber sonst hält sich das sehr in Grenzen. Und du so?In childhood for sure. Deer also still relatively frequent, but otherwise it is very limited. And you?
Auch sehr, sehr häufig. Rehe sowieso, Hirsche, Wildschweine natürlich. Also very, very frequently. Deer anyway, stags, wild boars of course.
Hast du so oft Wildschweine gesehen? Have you seen wild boars that often?
Habe ich schon häufiger mal tatsächlich. Also nicht aus allzu naher Distanz, aber das ist meistens gut, da sollte man sich schon fernhalten. I have actually seen them more often. Well, not from too close a distance, but that’s usually good, you should keep your distance.
Die sind teilweise sehr aggressiv, wenn ihre Jungen dabei sind, verständlicherweise. They are sometimes very aggressive when their young are with them, understandably.
Wenn wir in Deutschland bleiben – wir beide waren ja auch schon in Afrika, da haben wir noch ganz andere Tiere gesehen – aber wir reden hier von den deutschen Wildtieren. If we stay in Germany – we’ve both been to Africa, we saw completely different animals there – but we’re talking about German wild animals here.
Wir sind beide auf dem Dorf aufgewachsen, groß geworden, ich glaube, da ist es relativ normal für deutsche Kindern, so in Berührung zu kommen mit wilden Tieren. We both grew up in the village, I think it’s relatively normal for German children there to come into contact with wild animals.
Ich kann mich aber erinnern, dass ich schon öfter gehört habe, dass es einfach auch Menschen gibt, Städter, die haben in ihrem Leben noch kein Tier live gesehen, kein Wildtier in freier Wildbahn, höchstens im Zoo oder im Tierpark. But I can remember having heard more often that there are simply people, city dwellers, who have never seen an animal live in their life, no wild animal in the wild, at most in the zoo or wildlife park.
Das finde ich immer krass. I always find that extreme.
Das finde ich auch richtig krass. Es ist für uns ja eigentlich komplett unvorstellbar, weil es für uns so normal war immer, Rehe zu sehen, Hasen zu sehen, Füchse zu sehen oder Igel. I find that really extreme too. It is actually completely unimaginable for us, because it was always so normal for us to see deer, hares, foxes or hedgehogs.
Das ist echt, wie du sagst, unvorstellbar eigentlich. It’s really, as you say, unimaginable actually.
Irgendwie gehört es dazu. Schreibt uns gerne mal, wie viele Wildtiere ihr schon in eurem Leben gesehen habt, wie viele heimische Tiere. In a way, it’s part of it. Feel free to write to us and tell us how many wild animals you have seen in your life, how many native animals.
Aber wir gehen gleich noch ein bisschen mehr auf die Problematik ein, denn es ist nicht alles so schön, wie wir es gerade beschrieben haben. But we will go into the problem a bit more in a moment, because not everything is as beautiful as we have just described.
Wildtiere sind bedroht in Deutschland, Wildnis ist bedroht. Wild animals are threatened in Germany, wilderness is threatened.

Was ist überhaupt das Problem? Wir haben in Deutschland eine relativ große Fläche, aber wir haben auch das Problem, dass wir relativ viel dieser Fläche verbaut haben, dass überall Menschen sind. What is the problem anyway? In Germany, we have a relatively large area, but we also have the problem that we have built over a relatively large amount of this area, that there are people everywhere.
Das ist nicht so wie in Skandinavien, wo auf 1000 Quadratmetern gefühlt drei Menschen kommen, sondern hier kann man kaum fünf Kilometer in eine Richtung fahren, ohne eine kleine Siedlung zu sehen. It’s not like in Scandinavia, where there are effectively three people per 1000 square meters, but here you can hardly drive five kilometers in one direction without seeing a small settlement.
Wir nutzen wahnsinnig viele Flächen für Wohnsiedlungen, für Verkehr, für Landwirtschaft, für Forst oder Freizeitaktivitäten. We use an enormous amount of land for residential settlements, for transport, for agriculture, for forestry or leisure activities.
Grundproblem: Es gibt kaum mehr echte Rückzugsgebiete für wilde Tiere. Basic problem: there are hardly any real retreat areas for wild animals anymore.
Genau das ist es halt. Die Wildtiere teilen sich halt ihren Lebensraum mit so unfassbar vielen Menschen. That’s exactly it. The wild animals share their habitat with an incredible number of people.
Um da mal ein bisschen konkret reinzugehen: Auf 1000 Hektar Land kommen in Deutschland ungefähr 2300 Menschen.To get a bit specific: there are about 2300 people for every 1000 hectares of land in Germany.
Das ist natürlich ein Riesenunterschied zu diesen gefühlt drei Menschen. Da ist halt wirklich einfach die Problematik unsere Landnutzung. Das ist einfach das Ding. That is of course a huge difference to those effectively three people. That’s really just the problem with our land use. That’s just the thing.
Es ist so viel Fläche, die für alles Mögliche genutzt wird und ja, das ist ja auch nicht alles Blödsinn. There is so much area being used for all sorts of things and yes, it’s not all nonsense.
Wir brauchen ja Landwirtschaft, aber es bietet halt so unfassbar wenig Raum dann noch für diese Wildtiere. We do need agriculture, but it offers so incredibly little space left for these wild animals.
Das ist wirklich in Deutschland ein großes Problem. That is really a big problem in Germany.
Wir haben uns mal ein Tier herausgepickt, was da so sinnbildlich steht für diese negative Entwicklung, und das ist das größte Wildtier Deutschlands, das ist der Rothirsch. We have picked out an animal that is symbolic of this negative development, and that is Germany’s largest wild animal, the red deer.
Wenn man so ein majestätisches Tier mal in freier Wildbahn gesehen hat, dann kann man echt froh sein, weil die zeigen sich nicht oft. If you’ve seen such a majestic animal in the wild, you can be really happy because they don’t show themselves often.
Und trotzdem gibt es tatsächlich 220.000 Rothirsche in Deutschland. And yet there are actually 220,000 red deer in Germany.
Man könnte denken, 220.000 Tiere, das wirkt relativ stabil. You might think, 220,000 animals, that seems relatively stable.
Ja, das ist auch so. Der Bestand ist aktuell nicht gefährdet. Und trotzdem gibt es einfach ein strukturelles Problem. Yes, that’s right. The population is currently not endangered. And yet there is simply a structural problem.
Der Rothirsch ist quasi nur auf ungefähr 25 % der ganzen Landesfläche verteilt. The red deer is distributed over only about 25% of the total land area.
Und das ist alles in einem sehr kleinen, engen und gesetzlich erlaubten Raum. And all of that is in a very small, narrow, and legally permitted space.
