Leute, wir haben letzte Woche über das Thema Karneval und Fasching geredet und über den absoluten Ausnahmezustand, der jetzt in den letzten Tagen in einigen Teilen Deutschlands geherrscht hat. Moin! Guys, last week we talked about the topic of Carnival and Fasching and about the absolute state of emergency that has prevailed in some parts of Germany over the last few days. Und vor allem auch über den Konsum, der in diesen Tagen einfach einsetzt und den viele Leute bis über die Maßen praktizieren. And especially about the consumption that simply sets in during these days and which many people practice beyond measure. Jetzt, heute, ist Start der Fastenzeit, also der komplette Kontrast zum Kölner Karneval oder zum Karneval, zum Fasching generell. Now, today, is the start of Lent, the complete contrast to the Cologne Carnival or to Carnival, to Fasching in general. Jetzt gibt es sehr viele Leute in Deutschland, die diesen Konsum extrem einstellen. Das machen lange nicht alle, glaube ich, aber sehr viele, oder? Also ich glaube, es ist inzwischen schon so ein Ding, das wird immer größer, habe ich das Gefühl, auch aus unterschiedlichen Gründen. Yes, yes, indeed. Deswegen reden wir heute ganz kurz erst mal über das Thema Fastenzeit, aber wir wollen diese Folge heute vor allem für ein Thema nutzen, und zwar um über den Alkoholkonsum der Deutschen zu sprechen. Exactly, exactly. That’s why today we’re first going to talk briefly about the topic of Lent, but we mainly want to use this episode today for one topic, namely to talk about the alcohol consumption of Germans. Ja, wie viel trinken die Deutschen eigentlich? Wie wichtig ist das Thema Alkohol für die Deutschen? Wie ist das überhaupt entstanden? Welche kulturellen, geschichtlichen Wurzeln hat der Alkohol überhaupt in Deutschland? Yes, how much do Germans actually drink? How important is the topic of alcohol for Germans? How did that even come about? What cultural and historical roots does alcohol have in Germany anyway? Ich meine, jeder, der von euch sich schon ein bisschen mal mit dem Thema oder mit der deutschen Bevölkerung, mit der deutschen Gesellschaft beschäftigt hat, weiß, dass das Thema Alkohol irgendwie dazugehört wie die Butter aufs Brot. I mean, anyone among you who has dealt a little with the topic or with the German population, with German society, knows that the topic of alcohol somehow belongs to it like butter on bread. Und genau diesem Mysterium gehen wir heute mal auf den Grund. And that is exactly the mystery we are getting to the bottom of today. So, Amelie, die Fastenzeit. Was können wir da sagen? Also heute geht es los, 40 Tage, heute ist Aschermittwoch. So, Amelie, Lent. What can we say about that? Well, it starts today, 40 days, today is Ash Wednesday. 40 Tage dauert diese Fastenzeit, das geht immer bis zum Karsamstag, dem Samstag vor Ostern. This period of Lent lasts 40 days, it always goes until Holy Saturday, the Saturday before Easter. Genau. Exactly. Und wichtige Info, die wir beide nicht kannten: Sonntage zählen in diesem Zusammenhang nicht. Also Sonntage sind aus dieser Fastenzeit ausgenommen. And an important piece of info that both of us didn’t know: Sundays don’t count in this context. So Sundays are excluded from this period of Lent. Ja, das wusste ich auch nicht.
