Ja, moin liebe Deutschlerner, moin liebe Deutschlerner, moin Amelie! Yes, hello dear German learners, hello dear German learners, hello Amelie!
Moin! Hello!
It’s great that you are here, have tuned in, and are listening to us. And today we are talking about the dating behavior of Germans. We actually noticed that there are some peculiarities and they might apply more to Germans than to others, right? And today we are going to fight our way through this topic. In general, would you say that the dating behavior of Germans has changed over the last few years, or has it always remained more or less the same?
I think it has changed over the last few years. I think it’s a bit – of course, I did a bit of research, sure – a bit more of a tendency has emerged that everything is going in a more relaxed direction, in more, meaning more towards non-committal relationships and yeah, like this, well, non-committal dating, right?
Yes, although I do believe that this is a bit of a trend of our time, right?
Yes, yes, it’s not just German, that’s definitely true. It’s just somehow generally an issue due to all the dating apps and stuff like that.
Yes, so keeping options open, not wanting to commit, I think all of that was unimaginable 50 years ago or so, right? So, in the past in Germany, we know through our parents and grandparents, people met, fell in love, and then it didn’t even take all that long until the first child arrived, until they got married. That all took place in their mid-20s, right?
Ja. Yes.
And today, I mean, I am in my mid-30s, you are in your early 30s, we have had the topic of midlife crisis and quarter-life crisis before, but yeah, so the topic of getting married or having children was out of the question for us in our mid-20s.
No, not at all, right? For me personally, for example, there was always this idea that it might be like that when I was younger, because we just knew it that way from our parents and you had this image in your head, oh, that’s normal to get married and have children in your early to mid-20s, but yeah, that very quickly turned out differently in reality, right, that’s not how it is.
Yes, it sort of dissolved into thin air. Yes, so today we are looking a bit at the current situation, not just at the development, but especially at how things are today, how Germans get to know each other, and how the first dates might go and what kind of peculiarities there are. Maybe we will also give a little insight into our own dating experiences, I don’t know yet, we’ll have to see how far we get in this episode.
